Our Groovy Little Cinema

Wow, look at Chris! He's like Roger Ebert! Where's Ruth?? She sends me emails every week to let me know what's coming up... and she ALWAYS gives me my club soda for free. I seriously heart this place.

The Colorful World of ISU

We just got back from an Ohio University International Student Union dinner. Wow that was a lot of food, from all over. And it was all prepared by the thousands of international (and non-terrorist, i might add) students, for 500 people! What a treat.

The Athena Cinema is Back!

Thank goodness our own ATHENA CINEMA is back! It was on hiatus all summer, which put a definite dent in my popcorn consumption. The good news is that the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University is now in charge, and they not only show the best of the new, but it's going to have a art house dimension also. YAY! For instance, today at 6pm featured the Athens Premiere of Godard's CONTEMPT starring Brigitte Bardot and Jack Palance. And i missed it! Doh.

Are We Becoming Hippies??

Who knows? I suppose it's really not possible. But we sure are trying. We went to the Annual Glasshouse Works Garden Party last weekend and had a GREAT time with HUNDREDS of hippies who are our new neighbors and friends. It was a blast, and Tom and Ken are the most fabulous hosts. It is always pretty darned elaborate, with a smorgasbord of dozens and dozens and dozens of items to eat, the gardens to tour, gallons and gallons of wine, the "desert house," and of course all the lovely gardens and nooks and crannies and outdoor rooms and worlds they contain. Last year was our first year, and to my surprize, I found 2 great pictures of me and Steven on the website! Well, if you ignore that GIANT zit on my forehead, they are great pictures:

Just Call Me the Athens Chamber of Commerce

Check the sidebars to the right; you'll find a new category all about Athens Ohio. Most of these are places where we do all our business (especially the Farmer's Market, Donkey, and the Village Bakery)... and many are missing cause they don't have websites (like Haffa's Records, Lollipop Ice Cream, White's Mill, etc.)... and there will be many more to add in coming weeks and months i'm sure. This is an amazing little town. It's also an inducment to convince those of you who've been putting off a visit to get your asses up here (I'm talking about you Karen & Tricia!).

It's That Time of Year Again!

No, i'm not talking about taxes. It's time for the 34th Annual Athens International Film + Video Festival! Who wants to come and see? I can't believe the huge roster of films, many of them I really really want to see. I'm so glad this tiny little town is happenin enough to have this. Last year it was great. One of this films I saw last year was Almost Normal, which was conceived and written down the block by an Ohio University student, who was here for a talk and reception after the screening, along with several of his crew. Last year, Steven wasn't here yet, this year he gets to go and see lots and lots of these!
